There’s been a proliferation of fox fashions and furnishings over the last year, and the little orange guy is slowly moving into the mainstream. While West Elm and CB2 haven’t embraced the sly guy just yet (the owl is still the favored creature at most larger chains), Tory Burch plastered fox heads on flats, iPhone cases, and pouches, Jonathan Adler has a white one in his porcelain menagerie, and various foxy home accessories can be found at Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. Shopping Trip: Patch NYC x Target

I had planned on getting to the Watertown Target by 9:15 Sunday morning, right after Hebrew school drop off. My husband had other plans that involved packing groceries for Jewish families in need and delivering them to their doorstep, so needless to say, my trip was postponed. By the time we got to a Target—the South Bay Plaza one—it was 12:15. And, I had a serious time limit becauase my sons were eager to watch the Patriots season opener.

There were two areas, designated with both “The Shops” and “Patch NYC” signs: one with some bedding and the second with the rest of the goodies. Not picked over, but not bursting with merchandise. I convinced a twenty-something girl to put the last candelabra back on the shelf so I could snap a photo. The stuff is cute, though I didn’t buy anything. The colors are earthier than my palette at home, but certainly seasonal. The guy re-organizing the shelves said it was stocked full that morning; people definitely came specifically to buy Patch. Yesterday afternoon I finally swung by the Watertown Target (this time on the way to karate), and pretty much the same deal, but less of it.

On a side note, I checked out the Kirna Zabete collection and it was surprisingly chic. I bought a pair of stretch faux leather leggings and almost bought an adorable heart-print blouse, but decided I couldn’t do polyester or whatever it was (in the real world it would have been silk). There was a cute and swingy faux leather skirt, and a great tweed shift with faux leather panels. Fabric was soft and the cut was pretty good. A win over some of the other collabs in terms of quality.

ARTmonday: Amanda Barr

On Thursday I saw the below artwork, “Transforming Masses,” on Madewell’s blog and immediately loved it. It’s promoting new works by the artist, Amanda Barr, on view at the Williamsburg outpost of Brooklyn clothing boutique, Bird. The work is  based on her recent trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, where she worked in a printshop on mono prints. There are also landscapes and portraits inspired by a science fiction concept involving fields of gases and minerals and alien bodies that are metamorphosing and diffusing. I love her use of color and the dreamy compositions. To me, “A Foreign Sea” is reminiscent of Chagall. I’ve also included a sampling of some older, more whimsical multimedia pieces at the end.

Animals & Veggies: Truro Agricultural Fair 2012

It’s official. Stopping by the Truro Ag Fair on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend is our last Cape hurrah before heading home to Boston at the end of each summer. I seem to have skipped posting about it in 2010, but in 2009 I admired the bunnies, and 2011 was all about alpacas. This year I oohed and ahed over the pigs. Aren’t they so cute, all cuddled up napping? There was a great rooster too, who looked like something out of a Dr. Suess book. If course plenty of organically farmed local vegetables and some enormous pumpkins.
