Chicago-based interior designer Nate Berkus recently debuted The Nate Berkus Collection at Target and came out with his second book, The Things That Matter (Spiegel & Grau). Site Spotlight: 30 Spaces from RoomReveal.com
UPDATE: RoomReveal is no longer online.
Back in September, Pablo Seuc-Rocher, co-founder of San Francisco-based site RoomReveal, sent me a preview link. I checked it out of the weekend, and turned up some pretty great rooms. RoomReveal’s focus is the interior design community; it’s meant to be a place were users can find inspiration and engage with designers and design devotees.
It’s quite basic, you simply scroll through decently sized images of rooms. You can click on designers names to see their profile and full collection, you can follow the designers, and “like” rooms. You can also search by tags. It’s simple, without complicated functionality; its success will depend on the quality of designers who upload their work. I found 30 rooms I really like, from 21 designers; obviously the team is working to recruit more designers every day.
The site officially launches next month, but they’ve provided this link for StyleCarrot users to get in early, so go ahead and explore. But first, scroll down to see the rooms I liked best.
ARTmonday: Sassy Signs and Sculptures by Alejandro Diaz
I’ve seem a lot of quirky neon messages on Pinterest, blogs, and Tumblrs, as well as some in the new contemporary wing at the MFA, but hadn’t taken time to learn about the artists. Handily, RISD just emailed me about a new show at the RISD Museum opening next month showcasing a number of the more prominent pieces I’ve seen.
RISD Business: Sassy Signs and Sculptures by Alejandro Diaz features comical lit and cardboard signs for which Diaz is best known, such as “Make Tacos Not War” and “Unhappy at Last,” which grew from a 2003 series of public performances in front of New York landmarks like Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue and the Plaza Hotel. His works are considered not just art, but entertainment, activism, public intervention, and free enterprise.
The exhibit opens Friday, November 16 at the RISD Museum in Providence. The public is invited to a free opening celebration with the Texas-born, NYC-based artist on Thursday, November 15, at 6 pm. The exhibit will be on view until June 9, 2013.
