Find My Chair in House Beautiful’s Scavenger Hunt!

House Beautiful’s  4th Annual Chair Scavenger Hunt kicks off on Wednesday and I’ve got a chair in the mix. The magazine has assigned StyleCarrot this ikat-patterned Dane recliner by La-Z-Boy. Like it? You could win it.

On Wednesday ant Thursday, the HB team will hide 20 black and white chairs (including this one) in iconic locations around Los Angeles.  Follow @HouseBeautiful and @StyleCarrot on Twitter for clues on where to find and win my chair in LA! We’ll be marking tweets with hashtag #hbchairs.

UPDATE: On Thursday, March 7 at around 2:30 PT the HB team will hide this chair in the vicinity of the Urth Café at 8565 Melrose Avenue between Robertson and La Cienega. FIND IT!!!

House Beautiful Los Angeles Chair Hunt

With its classic lines, I can easily picture this chair in the New York City apartment of Laura, the 1944 film noir directed by Otto Preminger. In addition to fitting in with the decor, the ikat swirls also reflect the dizzying machinations of Laura, the femme fatale, who captivates the men around her.

If you’re wondering what the occasion is, this is all in celebration of House Beautiful’s March 2013 “Color Combinations” issue, for which they’re toasting the most classic color combination of all—black & white—along with the glory days of cinema. The event is called “Beautiful in Black & White.”

Other chair brands include American Leather, Crate & Barrel, Hickory Chair, Kravet, Room & Board, Target, and more, and participating bloggers include Tobi Fairley, Lisa Mende, Tamara Stephenson of Nest, Megan Arquette of Beach Bungalow Eight, Christian May of Maison21, Jennifer Mehditash of Dec-a-porter, and plenty of others. Feel free to gather clues for all of them!

Finally, stay tuned for House Beautiful’s Pinterest contest in which you will be asked to pin the chair from this post. Meanwhile, follow StyleCarrot and HouseBeautiful on Pinterest.

ARTmonday: The Armory Show 2013 (Part I)

Last week I got an email from The Armory Show announcing its partnership with Artsy. Oddly, I haven’t really explored the site before. I haven’t quite yet either (will revisit with a post on Artsy very soon), because I was preoccupied with browsing the 2400+ works that will be exhibited at The Armory Show 2013 in New York City, March 7 – 10.

The works are predominantly by established and iconic artists, though I also discovered a number I wasn’t personally familiar with, and a few that were even affordable. (Not all list prices, but there’s an “inquire” button if you’re so inclined.) I found 40 pieces on Artsy from The Armory Show that I really liked, keeping in mind a mix of medium and era. (My absolute favorite, love, love, love, is Gary Hume’s “The Beach.” It’s probably tens of thousands… afraid to check.)  Here’s the first batch. More later. I’ll also go back add in the medium of each. Off to an appointment now. . .

Shopping Trip: Lekker

Yesterday I headed over to Boston’s South End to meet Seema Krish at her studio (and then The Buttery for a carrot cupcake—the best, best, best carrot cupcakes). Then I popped an extra quarter into the meter (yeah, I drove; lame) and ducked into  Lekker, one of Boston’s best design shops. Lines include David Trubridge, Eleanor Pritchard, Marie’s Corner, Blomus, Menu, Oak Pure, John Derian Furniture, Mud Australia, MEPRA, and tons more. I had a nice chat with Natalie, who owns the shop, and took plenty of photos. I will certainly post a peek at what’s Seema’s been up to (her newest collection debuts in April), but in the meantime, here’s what’s in store at Lekker.
