Sourcing It: 42 Bookends

Following up on yesterday’s painted bookshelves post, it seemed like a good time to run this. When I put this together a few weeks ago, I had just spent the weekend clearing off our living room bookshelves. Not clearing them of books, but the way too many paintings that are stacked three deep, and vases, and magazines that need filing, and the Swedish Lily candlesticks I keep buying on eBay, and so on. I don’t really need bookends, since I have so many books they go from one end to the next, but I’m often tempted by them design-wise. Here’s an array of bookends both functional and beautiful.

Get the Look: 65 Modern Candlesticks and Candelabra

For years I’ve adored the Lucite pretzel knot candlesticks by Dorothy Thorpe—a decade ago I had stashed a tear that features one prominently, and I still have it. Lately I’ve been interested in brass candelabra with joints, as well as simple Danish candlesticks in teak or painted wood. There are tons of newer, contemporary ones too, like Muuto’s green raw wood candelabra and the chunky chrome or glass tubular pieces that refer back to the ’70s. Get the Look: 34 (Mostly) Modern Sculptures

Bronze sculptures are expensive, modern or new, but there are examples of vintage and contemporary pieces in other mediums, like wood and ceramic, that are well within reach. I love the well-above-my-price-range biomorphic bronze by Antoine Poncet, as well as Kelly Wearstler’s cheeky legs. And the Finnish sheep in smooth black wood is adorable.

Site Spotlight: The Inside Source

Last week, eBay launched a new lifestyle site, The Inside Source. It’s genius really. A blog-style format with interviews on the latest pop culture, art, fashion, beauty, décor, “green” chic, and hi-tech gadgets, all concluding with links to similar finds currently available for sale on eBay.
