Get the Look: 36 Modern Trivets

It’s true that most of us have stone countertops that can withstand heat, but I think (preferably) modern trivets still have a place in the kitchen.

Not long ago I put a Pyrex baking dish straight from the oven onto our granite countertop. It was wet. The entire dish, salmon included, exploded. Seriously. Exploded.

Many kitchens, including mine, mix countertops, using a different material for the island than for the rest of the workspaces. The ship-like cherry wood countertops on either side of our stove are scorched from the tea kettle. (Not my doing.) I leave a cork trivet nearby now.

And unless you have have a marble-topped Saarinen tulip table you don’t want to be putting hot dishes on your dining table.

Just In: Lumens Modern Lighting Sale Going On Now

I seem always to be researching lighting for one situation or another. (Currently I’m choosing lights to brighten up and modernize our Florida condo.) Luckily sites like Lumens make choosing modern lighting easy, from basic fixtures to on-trend statement lighting. We never seem to have enough hooks, whether it’s in the closet, on the back of the bathroom door, or in the kitchen, I’ve been meaning to add to by my desk for my tote bag too, instead of always draping it on the back of my chair. I don’t want it to stand out, so I’ll need to find simple modern wall hooks.

Although I’ve recently updated the links for its companion post—Get the Look: 22 Modern Grey Sofas—it’s been over two years since I originally created it, so another post on modern grey sofas is in order.

We have a modern grey sofa in the family room, and although it may not be as fashion forward as I’d like, it’s got clean lines, durable fabric, and big comfy cushions. Get the Look: 30 Colorful Dining Chairs

Oddly, in all these years, I’ve yet to pull together a roundup of modern dining chairs. I’ve done Get the Look posts for modern patio chairs, modern desk chairs, and modern dining tables, and plenty of other furnishings, but alas, no modern dining chairs. Until now. There’s quite a variety here. There all modern silhouettes, but some are wooden, others acrylic or plastic; only a couple have upholstered seats.

All of these modern dining chairs sport fun colors. There’s a dining room photo by Petra Bindel that I’ve been kind of obsessed with, featuring three Muuto Nerd chairs in pastels around a pale wood table in a white room. When I decorated the dining room in my friend Meredith’s NYC condo, we used Eames chairs in three different colors around a Saarinen pedestal table.

There are more brightly colored modern dining chairs around than you may think. Made.com has several chairs in fun colors, including a hot pink that’d make Barbie blush. Home furnishings site Lulu & Georgia is full of color, with a couple of great purple dining chairs, among others. Crate & Barrel and West Elm sometimes have amazing colors too, but you have to get them quick because they tend to only stock them for a season; and of course, Ikea is worth checking too.
