Montage: 47 Coffee/Cocktail Tables

Now that our living room is habitable again (aside from the two extra dining tables taking up half the space), I’ve decided to try out the Heywood-Wakefield coffee table with revolving top that we salvaged from my husband’s grandparents house. I had initially been thinking of an airy brass and glass piece, to work with the pair of atomic ball and brass-plated  vintage lamps from eBay and yet to be chosen future chandelier, but this one looks pretty good.

It works nicely with our Petrie sofa, which has similar lines to the original 1960s pieces his grandparents used to furnish the house. (Too bad our sofa is uncomfortable. Actually, it’s fine for cocktails, but not conducive to lying around with a laptop. Which do you think I spend more time doing?

Here are 49 living rooms with various styles of coffee table (or cocktail table, I guess the term is interchangeable). If you’re working on figuring out what type of design will work for you, these images will provide some ideas.

Just In: 2012 New Trad Designers

Last month, San Francisco-based designer Palmer Weiss, whose work I adore, asked if would submit her work to Traditional Home for its Trad Home New Designers contest. (Trad Home is the magazine’s digital edition). The house we submitted is absolutely gorgeous, and I’m happy to say she won!

The May issue of the print magazine will feature an announcement with everyone’s photos, and the projects of the ten winners will be published in the spring edition of  Trad Home online. The bloggers who nominated the designers will write the accompanying stories. I’ve already did my interviews with Palmer and the homeowner, and will be working on crafting the feature all day today.

Congrats Palmer, and congratulations to the other New Trad winners. Here is a sampling of the designers’ work.

ARTmonday: Lissy Elle

I discovered photographer Lissy Larrichia, or Lissy Elle, as she seems to go by, on one of my new favorite blogs, The Jealous Curator yesterday. Her work is incredibly atmospheric and angsty. She’s a Canadian teen (or maybe she’s just beyond teendom now; her Flickr stream started in late 2009). I really love her work—the settings, the dresses, the props, the narratives. You should have a look at her Facebook page too, where she’s posted some of her most recent images.
