Shopping Trip: Provincetown’s Shor

shor ext2This about wraps it up for cute design shops in Provincetown. (Though I really should do a comprehensive post to aggregate all these little ones.) Shor has been around for a while, though under a different name (Coast maybe?) until a couple of years ago. The furnishings here are a bit more traditional, a mix of new and antique accessories, with a trendy piece here and there (hello stag head). There’s a pair of stunning Michael Aram thorny silver twig lamps in the window that I didn’t get a picture of. They seem to offer design services too – there are colorful Company C rug samples in the back, along with stacks of swatches. I am loving the straw-like upholstered sofa, as well as the open Champagne cork cage-like lamps. See for yourself.

Shopping Trip: Provincetown’s Yates and Kennedy

yatesYou’re probably sick of all the Ptown posts, but hey, that’s where I am, so just go with it. Amazingly, I came across another new design shop, Yates and Kennedy, at 368 Commercial Street in the East End. The owner, Mitch Yates, also owns the edgy men’s clothing boutique MAP, and decided to branch out to the home thing this year. His taste is right on, with a mix of old and new pieces and groovy vintage wallpaper. Have a look at his wares:

ARTmonday: PAAM Members Auction

P1010043

Every year the Provincetown Art Association and Museum holds a silent auction of member works created on 12×12 boards. The work is exhibited for about six weeks, during which time the bidding is on. The bids start at $125 and increase by $25 increments. This means you can get some good deals on local artwork. Well known artists’ works go for quite a bit, but I was once the lone bidder on a piece I really love. The artists agree to donate 50% of the purchase price to PAAM, though many donate 100% of the proceeds.

We put in our initial bids over the weekend. We are especially interested in the middle piece in the bottom row. My mother-in-law painted it, based on a photo I took last summer of my sons and their cousin on the beach. So if you’re in Ptown, stop by and bid, but not on that one! Here is a sampling; sorry the photos aren’t great.

Get the Look: Maps

There are lots of maps for sale online, from huge murals to dainty vintage dandies. You could easily cover your walls in the stuff. Or just opt for a map wallpaper pattern, which is perhaps more pulled together but not nearly as interesting. There are also plenty of map inspired accessories you could scatter about. Here is a sampling of the ones I found…
