Shop Alert: Forty Winks Opens in Harvard Square

Forty Winks, Harvard Square

While I’m constantly parading up and down Newbury, I don’t make it over to Harvard Square quite as often. And when I do, I’m a bit, shall we say, affected, by the margaritas from the Border. So it’s no surprise that Daily Candy scooped me.  Forty Winks, a new boudoir/boutique,  opened at 56 JFK Street on Friday.

I just chatted with co-owner Meredith Donaldson (the other is Rachel Wentworth; they both worked at Mint Julep), who sent this photo (I’ll get over there soon!)  and ran down their raison d’etre and list of brands for me. Basically, they’re a lingerie and loungewear shop (they actually know how to fit bras) that also sells some swimwear, scarves, and candles. She points out the area’s dearth of underthings, “There’s nothing in Davis, Porter, Harvard, or Central; you had to go downtown or to Cambridgeside .”

As for labels, they’ve got: Cosabella, Hanky Panky, Spanx, Bobi, Le Mystere, Chantelle, Belabumbum, OnGossamer, Eberjey, Mary Green, Huit, Top Secret, Keep Me, Daft Bird, Plan B Leggings, Yummie Tummie, Soak Lingerie Wash, Commando, Voluspa Candles, Felina, and more.

ARTmonday: Timothy Cummings

Over the weekend I chatted with Tyler Doran of Heir Antiques in Providence. I hope to actually visit his shop sometime soon. He has an amazing eye for the creepy and refined. One of the items that caught my eye on his 1st Dibs page is the colorful spot portrait below, by artist Timothy Cummings. Turns out he’s done a whole series of such works. Some are quite disturbing, but some are eerily beautiful.

The last two are not part of the Spot Portrait series, but have a similar aesthetic, I think.

Real Estate: 44 Bradford – Site of Urban Showhouse

The opening of Ricardo Rodriguez’s Urban Showhouse (April 29 to May 9) is nearing. While I can’t wait to see the house, located at 44 Bradford Street in the South End, fully decked out by designers Jonathan Adler, Andrew Terrat, Dennis Duffy, and Lisa Kreiling, the space is pretty fantastic on its own. Ricardo showed me it a few weeks ago, while it was still under construction; it cleaned up nicely!

44 Bradford Street. A great, wide open corner lot, tucked just behind Shawmut (Formaggio, The Buttery, Hudson, what could be better?), surrounded on two sides by Peters Park.

Here’s the listing:

One-of-a-kind brand new construction single family home in the perfect South End location. Surrounded by Peters Park, this corner home offers the most amazing light and views with three exposures, oversized wraparound windows, open and contemporary floor plan and finishes, approx. 2340sf, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, custom cabinetry, imported custom doors, three outdoor spaces including a unique side garden and an expansive roof deck, and garage parking for 2 cars.  $1,995,000
