The Montserrat School of Art Artrageous!31 auction is this Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Mass. I’m sad that I’ll miss it this year, but I’ve studied the catalog front to back and again. There are some great pieces, many at great prices, and the proceeds benefit kids who could really use the help.

The party is a lot of fun, with a silent and live auctions as well as student artists painting in the moment. You can purchase the $250 tickets to Artrageous! Montserrat School of Art Auction or one of the 200 $100 raffle tickets here.

Fine Print: New Book By Architects Polhemus Savery DaSilva

Polhemus Savery DaSilva Architects Book 2017

East Harwich, Mass.-based Polhemus Savery DaSilva is one of the region’s best-known architecture and building firm, with its coastal homes dotting the shores of Cape Cod. The new book, Living  Where Land Meets Sea: The Houses of Polhemus Savery DaSilva, celebrates 20 years of the company’s creating luxury coastal homes, not just on the ocean and bays, but rivers, lakes, and kettle ponds.

I was pretty familiar with PSDAB, though learned a lot more about it last spring when I worked on copy for Boston Magazine‘s Design Home 2016, which is perched high up at The Pinehills in Plymouth, Mass. overlooking Cape Cod. Living  Where Land Meets Sea features many more classic casual coastal beauties, including floor plans and elevations.

Here is a sampling of Cape Cod summer house architecture by Polhemus Savery DaSilva from their gorgeous new book Living Where Land Meets Sea with images by local photographer Brian Vanden Brink.

Paradise Cove in Chatham boasts charming starfish cutouts on the shutters, a PSDAB signature touch. (Be on the lookout for a story in Boston Globe Magazine on April 2nd on fire pits, which features the patio around back.)

Get the Look: 21 Modern Brass Pendant Lights

Swapping out mundane hardware for more special styles is an easy upgrade that gives a big return. Opting for brass intensifies the results. Who would have thought that the design world’s sudden penchant for brass, especially brass pendant lights, on the heels of it being considered so utterly bourgeois would have such staying power? Brass accents instantly brighten and freshen a space. Doing brass in the kitchen is big.

Gone are the days of the builder’s brass chandelier over the dining table. There is so much good brass lighting on the market. My favorite lighting sites include StyleCarrot partners Lumens and Ylighting. Let’s look at the 21 modern brass pendant lights I picked out from there and elsewhere, including Serena & Lily, Crate & Barrel, and Rejuvenation. [Updated Aug. 2020]
