ARTmonday: Jenny Prinn

I noticed last week that Jenny Prinn, who describes herself as “mommy, artist, and stylist,” started following StyleCarrot on Instagram. (I’ve been trying to beef up my account, so I hope you’ll give me a follow too.) When I clicked through to Jenny Prinn’s Instagram, I was thrilled to discover that she’s a Maine artist whose work I’d admired on Serena & Lily.

Jenny Prinn’s abstracts are colorful and uplifting. Some are truly abstract; others are abstracted landscapes. Her statement says she is “intrigued by the fleeting moments and feelings in life that are often overlooked or forgotten.” She creates “the small pulsing, transient moments and sensations that strike deep within our core for just a moment and then are gone.” She works in acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

The artwork is beautiful, and the prices accessible. Most of these are still (at the moment) available for purchase. (I may need one for the Delray Beach condo.)

I’d love to visit Jenny Prinn’s studio.

ARTmonday: 15 Bicycle Artworks

No deep thoughts today, or even particularly serious artwork. Just some fun images of bicycles. Over the weekend it was almost warm enough, by Boston standards (and by that I mean it was over 40 degrees and sunny), to think about getting my bike down from its hanging place and going for a ride on the Esplanade. I settled for a walk It’s wet and muddy, with dirty, frozen mounds of snow still scattered, but I’m hopeful. For now (unless I become a different person and hit the new Soul Cycle), I’ll just enjoy these 15 bicycle artworks.

ARTmonday: 13 Photographs from Lumitrix

There’s a new online gallery that deals exclusively in contemporary photography—Lumitrix. Each print offered is a limited edition and retails at $80 ($220 framed). The London-based gallery currently represents just 13 photographers, but each is brilliant. Among them, Matilda Temperley (fashion designer Alice Temperley’s younger sister) focuses on dancers, while 23-year-old artist Kannagi Khanna wows with a series featuring celebrity images juxtaposed against Indian women. ARTmonday: 10 Geometric Portraits by Matthew Bourbon

While browsing one of my favorite art galleries (at least online, since I’ve never actually been there), Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Larchmont, NY, I discovered the work of artist Matthew Bourbon. (I also pulled images from Darke Gallery.) Bourbon was born in the Bay area, and after college at UC Davis, earned his Masters of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Bourbon is currently an associate professor in Texas. He is also an art critic and writer.

His artist’s statement says he is “interested in . . . how information is revealed or obscured” and “how it affects the narrative or possible interpretations of story.” I love the colors and geometric patterns and organic shapes that replace the figures heads or other body parts. It’s portraiture and abstract art in one.

ARTmonday: Jaime Derringer Art, Abstract Drawings and Paintings

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a regular contributor to Design Milk, the best contemporary design site on the web, founded and headed by Jaime Derringer. It turns out, that not only is Jaime super great at her job, she’s also an artist. I knew she did various graphic works for various collaborations, but the other day I saw she had pinned these fantastic, colorful abstract artworks—and they’re hers. I love the clear, bright palette and mix of blocky and curvy shapes. I think I may even pick one out for the condo in Delray Beach. Jaime Derringer art would certainly pop on white.
