Get the Look: 41 Geo / Polyhedron Furnishings

Today I am the guest blogger for New England Home. Sourcing It: 42 Bookends

Following up on yesterday’s painted bookshelves post, it seemed like a good time to run this. When I put this together a few weeks ago, I had just spent the weekend clearing off our living room bookshelves. Not clearing them of books, but the way too many paintings that are stacked three deep, and vases, and magazines that need filing, and the Swedish Lily candlesticks I keep buying on eBay, and so on. I don’t really need bookends, since I have so many books they go from one end to the next, but I’m often tempted by them design-wise. Here’s an array of bookends both functional and beautiful.

Get the Look: 47 Modern Fireplaces and Fireplace Accessories

Following up on yesterday’s Montage: 31 Freestanding Fireplaces, here is a sampling of fireplaces and accessories, both contemporary and antique. There’s really no excuse not to have a flame of fire—small tabletop models fueled with ethanol can be had at Home Depot. You can even get one that hangs on your wall. Interesting. I’ve had my eye on the minimalist tempered glass screens for our fireplace on the Cape, though I think I need a custom one since it’s raised a foot or two from the floor. I think I’ll concentrate on retrofitting a gas model in our defunct fireplaces in Boston instead.

Get the Look: 53 Sideboards, Credenzas, Buffets

Following up on yesterday’s Montage: 45 Rooms with Sideboards, I’ve sourced 53 mostly modern sideboards, credenzas, buffets, or whatever else you’d like to call them. Many are pricey (a sideboard is a hefty piece of furniture), but there are a few inexpensive finds. I’ve always loved the Dandelion by Iannone Design, but I’m in serious love with the Florence Knoll in gray with the carrera marble top. (The Concrete low dresser at CB2 is a decent sub, minus the fancy slab.)
