Carrot Currency: 20 Spring Shoes and 15 Rooms to Match

I put  together this design/fashion post to welcome Macy’s to the site. I thought it would be fun to pair colorful  spring shoes from the department store with 15 my favorite rooms. (I mean, what’s better than shoes and interior design, right, especially when someone pays you look at it!) I found some really cute looks.

The chambray walls set a casual tone in this  room designed by Jamie Drake. But it’s not without glamor, thanks to the brass side tables and lamps and sleek loveseat with celery green tufted cushion. The trio of summery patterns adds back major, summery fun.  SHOES: INC International Concepts Belvin Slingback Wedges ($80.10) and INC International Concepts Roslin Wedges ($59.99) .

I found this crisp, summery room on the blog Bright, Bold, Beautiful. The turquoise and green scheme are exactly that of our house on the Cape; a combo I never get tired of. I love the glass lamp and the fun painted floor paired with the more glam mirrored nightstand. SHOE: Jessica Simpson Evangela Platforms ($110).

–  –  –  –

Another turquoise and lime palette, this one by New York City-based designer Katie Ridder, who is one of my favorites. This is her parent’s dining room, and appears in her book. I love the more formal dining furniture and chandelier in this clearly summery locale. SHOE: Ivanka Trump Halyn Wedge Espadrille ($150)

–  –  –  –

This Moroccan-inspired kitchen by Rum Interior Design, sourced from Apartment Therapy, is beautiful, with its soaring ceilings, painted cabinetry, and gorgeous tile work. SHOE: Fergie Shoes Corsage Sandals ($129.95).

Chambray and white cotton duck is softened with a light wood coffee table and a series of pretty, uniformly framed artworks. Photo from Coastal Living magazine. SHOE: Ivanka Trump Lark Wedge Espadrille Cork Wedges ($135).

–  –  –  –

This clear blue and white room with glossy black accents from House to Home magazine is perfection. I adore the George Nelson pendants, bentwood chairs, leafy wallpaper, and black-framed sliding door. SHOE: Jessica Simpson Malika Platforms ($98).

I’ve always liked this tailored bedroom designed by Lynn Morgan and featured in Connecticut Cottages & Gardens magazine. The preppy colors and monogram pillow is tempered by the Rothko-like abstract art. SHOE: GUESS Tabari2 Patent Wedges with Studs ($99).

–  –  –  –

Another orange room I like, this one designed by Atlanta-based lovely Melanie Turner. Great horse triptych and love the whimsical floral rug. SHOES: Mia Shoes Renegade Wedges ($47.20) and Nine West Larysa Gold Metallic Croc Platform Cork Wedges ($79).

This bedroom is incredibly wonderful. Though the individual pieces are more fussy than I usually go for, I adore the way everything is put together, resulting in a brilliant outcome. Sophisticated and glam but not the least bit fussy. I love that there’s what looks to be a quirky black & white photo over the bed, showing that the designer/inhabitant doesn’t take things too seriously. SHOE: Ivanka Trump Violette Patent Slingback Pumps with Bow ($135).

–  –  –  –

This art deco style wallpaper of stylized leaves is black and taupe is wonderful. Who knew black lacquer dining chairs could work so well? Los Angeles design firm From the Desk of Lola, obviously. The rug adds an air of relaxedness, and the brass sconces draws the eye up to the arched doorway. SHOE: GUESS Nancille Peep Toe Lace Platform Pumps ($79.20).

–  –  –  –

Gold looks almost comfy when used with off-white walls, plain furniture and a well-worn wood floor. Hanging empty frames within frames is genius. Must hunt for some on eBay. Photo from Living Etc. SHOE: Badgley Mischka Lissa Gold Metallic Evening Pump with Rosette ($245).

Kelly Wearstler at her best, with art deco inspired wallpaper that brings to mind a candy-colored dream world. A normally groovy sort of lamp is elevated with a brass finish, the perfect accompaniment to the gold keepsake box and perfume bottles. SHOES: CL by Laundry In Stride Cork Wedge ($59) and Marc Fisher Crank Gold Metallic Cork Wedges ($69).

–  –  –  –

Super fun and brightly colored room (a guest room perhaps?) by New York designer Robyn Karp. I wish I knew the trick to making so many different patterns work so well together. I also love those built in lacquered drawers and shelves. SHOES: Steve Madden Beasst Platform Pumps ($99) and Dr. Scholl’s Iris Thongs with Rosette ($45).

p u r p l e s

A pair of purple pillows and deeply saturated landscape painting in shades of violet and red pick up on the colors in the gorgeous floral rug. There’s just enough color t0 seriously prettify an otherwise plain white room, featured in Elle Decor. SHOES: Steve Madden Beasst Platform Pumps ($99) and SHOES: Steve Madden Traisie Platform Pumps ($89).

–  –  –  –

This room is an old favorite from Domino, with dark purple walls and serious suzani drapery. SHOE: Steve Madden Pammyy Ikat Platform Wedges ($99).

On Trend: 35 Arrays of Arrows and Targets

I’ve been collecting images of arrows and targets for a while; I think I began to notice the trend in the fall. I thought it was a natural outgrowth of the trend of using feathers in decor, but I actually think it is part of The Hunger Games hoopla. In any case, I did a a piece on the arrow trend for The Inside Source earlier this year, and profiled blogger Amanda Hanley, in the Boston Globe Magazine. Put off by the high prices of vintage arrows, Hanley makes and sells arrows through her webshop Quivver. I, along with everyone else, saw The Hunger Games over the weekend, and as such felt inspired to post the roundup. UPDATE: I can’t believe I forgot about my own display of targets… They’re by Tracy Melton, and they’re hanging in our house on the Cape. It’s the first photo on the 23 Wall Installations post.

ARTmonday: Ye Rin Mok

Although I’ve yet to blog about all the pieces in my personal collection or the ones I covet, you may have noticed I have a thing for slightly edgy, somewhat fashion-y  female photographs, many of them showing just the bottom portion of the figures, often in hipster neighborhoods, glam rooms, or verging-on-seedy spaces. Los Angeles photographer  Ye Rin Mok‘s images fall into this category. Not surprising, since she shot a campaign for legwear company Hansel from Basel. The photographer has also done work for Dwell and Nylon, plus plenty of ‘zines.
