Montage: Ode to Eames – the Rocker

How can you not like the Charles and Ray Eames molded plastic rocker? It comes in pretty, yet practical colors, and like many mid-century modern pieces, works in a variety of rooms and settings. It’s whimsical but not cutesy. We have one in our son’s room on the Cape. It’s perfect for kids because it can’t be ruined, but it’s comfortable enough for Grandma to sit in too when she reads bedtime stories. If only I had $13,220, I could put together this fabulous black & chrome room. As if that will ever happen. The crazy thing is, these pieces have all been reduced for the 1st Dibs Saturday Sale. At full price, the look comes to $21,741. Insane. Though, I do adore the 1950s Jules Leleu chandelier.

PUMA Prefab Pop Up

Apparently this is what will be popping up tomorrow on Fan Pier in Boston. It’s called PUMA City and it is an 11,000 square-foot retail and event space made from 24 forty-foot long, reclaimed steel shipping containers. I like the look.

It was designed by PUMA and LOT-EK, and will be standing for three weeks. Why, you ask? Well, to sell shoes, I suppose. But also in celebration of the Volvo Ocean Race, which began in Alicante, Spain on October 11th. See below for their boat shaped like a shoe, Il Mostro.

Trend Watch: A Walk on the Beach

Yes, I know I did a post about rocks recently. But those were fancy rocks, magnificent minerals. These here are just plain old stones. There’s also fan coral, branch coral, birch logs, and basic branches. The images are all from homes here in Boston, curated from interviews I did for interior design stories. Thought you might derive some inspiration, especially since it’s finally nice enough to venture outdoors.
