Fashion Spotlight: CFDA Awards 2010 Best Dressed

Tonight I’ve been downloading photos from the CFDA Awards (that’s the Council of Fashion Designers of America for those of you lacking in style speak) for  the NBC fashion blog “The Thread,” and thought I’d share some of my favorite looks of the evening.

DVF in DVF (obviously) and SJP in McQueen.

Gwyneth, looking fierce in Michael Kors, with Michael Kors.

Absolutely loving Jessica Biel’s summery animal print dress.

Donna Karan lost to Alexander Wang for the womenswear award, but she glowed this drapey gray gown.

I adore Alexa Chung. Loving the sparkly bow detail, not sure about the granny length dress, though the chunky vintage shoes pull it together.

I’m hardly a fan of Whitney Port, but this pearly metallic backless gown is pure goddess.

Remember Vogue editor Tonne Goodman from The September Issue? Hardly seems like a barrel of laughs, but she nailed it with this shiny belted number.

Designer Zac Posen and model Devon Aoki., both perfectly turned out.

Loving Ed Westwick here – hot. Even Chace Crawford looks less pretty than usual.

And finally, SJP in a spectacular Alexander McQueen (RIP) from Pre-Fall.

Good night.

Storefronts: French Brands To Hit Boston

When a friend saw the teaser on my last post about French brands eying Boston for boutiques, her hopes soared. “Isabel Marant?!” Sorry, no such luck.  But French companies known abroad for attainable luxury are slowly infiltrating U.S. cities.

This includes Comptoir de Cotonniers, a line of basics, which is planning to open a shop here in the next six months, as well as Maje and Sandro both of which are planning on a Boston presence by the end of next year, WWD reports.

Event Alert: Denim After Dark at Madewell

In case you missed it last month (I did), you’ve got another chance. I love, love, love my skinny black Madewell jeans, not to mention my tiered and studded ruffle tank. Perhaps it’s time for a pair of jeans in white, to go with my newly purchased Madewell yellow ombre summer scarf.

Fine Print: Designers’ Homes in CFDA Book

WWD reports that the CFDA (that’s the Council of Fashion Designers of America for those of you not in the fashion know) and glossy book publisher Assouline are publishing American Fashion Designers at Home, a coffee-table book that will showcase homes from over 100 of its members. It’s due out in September ($65, to benefit the CFDA Foundation), though it’s featured on neither Amazon nor Assouline’s own site yet.

Glimpses will include new and yes, we’ve seen them before images, including Carolina Herrera UES (that’s Upper East Side for you non-New Yorkers) co-op, Donna Karan’s Parrot Cay guest house, Josie Natori’s Paris pied-à-terre, Diane von Furstenberg’s Cloudwalk estate in Litchfield County, Ralph Lauren’s Double RL ranch in Telluride, Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s horse farm in the rolling Kentucky hills, Lela Rose’s TriBeCa loft, and Bob Mackie’s vibrant L.A. pad. And, of course, no fashion décor tome would be complete without Jenna Lyons’ Park Slope brownstone.

Here are the images online at WWD. I contacted the publicists at Assouline, begging for more . . .

Angel Sanchez’s Mondrian-inspired living room.

The roof deck of Elie Tahari’s triplex in Soho , complete with family.

The guest house at Donna Karan’s Parrot Cay retreat in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Milly’s Michelle Smith’s pre-war living room on Madison Avenue, first seen in Elle Decor.
