ARTmonday: Art + Cocktails Truro (Photography)

As I’ve mentioned, this summer we hosted a pop up art gallery in our home on Cape Cod. (You can see photos on IG #artandcocktailstruro ) We hung 96 artworks, a good portion of them photography. (I posted the paintings and mixed media pieces back in August here.)

I was really pleased that many of the pieces that sold were photos. And not only that, they were unique, personal pieces, even a couple I have in my own collection. Thanks to the photographers who lent work, and to the friends that purchased them.

If you’re interested there are still plenty to choose from; just email me at stylecarrot [at] gmail [dot] com.

ARTmonday: Montserrat College of Art Artrageous!30 Auction

If you’ve been reading ARTmonday regularly you know I am a devotee of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston art sale.  I have yet to attend the MassArt Auction, but with my new burgeoning curatorial career I am very excited to go to this year’s art auction on April 9, 2016.

I am also thrilled to have been invited to the Montserrat College of Art Artrageous!30 Auction, which is this Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Gloucester. Montserrat College of Art is an accredited art school in Beverly, Mass., on the North Shore.

There are 16 pieces in the live auction, including work by my friends Lee Essex Doyle and Tess Atkinson (who is part of the Webster Art Project I curate). I saw many of these artworks a few weeks ago on exhibit at NAGA Gallery on Newbury Street and they’re quite wonderful. You can check out my @stylecarrotcurates Instagram for some installation shots. They’re tagged #artrageous30.

The silent auction includes over 120 artworks, including abstracts, landscapes, photography, collage, sculpture, etc. My absolute favorite piece is She thought it was love but it turns out to be adult onset ADD by Marcia Hermann, below.

Throughout Artrageous!, Montserrat students and faculty will create artworks live while you watch. Questions are encouraged, and all works will be available to bid on as they are made. In addition, there are 200 raffle tickets on sale for $100 each. The winner gets to choose any item from the live or silent auction.

The pieces are all online, though to bid you either need to attend or contact Montserrat for a bidder proxy. All proceeds raised at Artrageous!30 help provide funding for financial aid for Montserrat students.

Here are my top 15 picks from the Montserrat College of Art Artrageous!30 Auction.

ARTmonday: Signs of Spring

Although it’s rather slushy in Boston, it is indeed late March and there are signs of impending springtime. Buds on the magnolia trees along Commonwealth Avenue, crocuses pushing up in front gardens, street sweeping (well actually, that was cancelled today due to the weather).

If you need a bit of a lift on this less than sunny day, how about some spring art? Here are 15 artworks that depict springtime, from birds to green trees to pastel hues.

ARTmonday: Installation Photos of Webster & Company Artwork

Thanks to my friend interior designer Dee Elms of Terrat Elms, who suggested me for the project, Mr. Webster and I have been collaborating on bringing new artwork to his Boston Design Center showroom, Webster & Company.

I pick the artists (most have ties to New England) and present available pieces to Mr. Webster. He and Visual Design Director Jonathan Giacoletto choose which ones to feature and where to hang them.  We began in fall 2015 and it’s an ongoing success.

For a full listing of available works (as well as those that have sold), see the Webster Art Project tab here on my blog.  If you are interested in pricing, please email me at stylecarrot [at] gmail [dot] com.

For more art follow @StyleCarrot and @WebsterCompany on Instagram and the hashtags #WebsterArtProject and #StyleCarrotCurates.

Here is a sampling of pieces in situ in the Webster & Company showroom.

ARTmonday: New England Artists at Webster & Company

This fall I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wonderful new project: curating artwork for the Webster & Company showroom at the Boston Design Center.

I love art. I buy art like other women buy shoes. I have master’s in art history that I did for fun and I started collecting art around the same time.  Friends have asked me for help choosing artwork, and over the years I’ve often thought of art consulting for interior designers.

This summer I was at the bar at Blackfish in  Truro with my friend Dee Elms, who encouraged me. (If  you don’t know her, she  is a very talented, supremely generous Boston-based interior designer). A week later I got an email from Mr. Webster at Webster & Company, asking me if I’d be interested in helping find local Boston artists whose work he could hang in his showroom. (A little birdie suggested me.) He was looking to do a complete swap of everything he had hanging. Within a month.

In a frenzy, I scoured my files and sources for Boston artists (and some further afield in Maine and on the Cape) whose work I loved that aligned with Mr. Webster’s tastes. We met in early September, narrowed down my finds, and over the last few weeks the very gracious Mr. Webster and his meticulous visual design director Jonathan Giacoletto have hung the work. There are about 75 pieces from almost 20 artists, all either local or with ties to the area.

It’s been a thrilling experience, both working with Mr. Webster and his team and all the artists. I haven’t seen everything hung yet, but I plan to go this week. If you happen to be over there, stop by. (Obviously they’re all for sale. If you you’re interested, you can  let me know.) Here is one piece from each artist represented. If you read ARTmonday regularly you will recognize some names. More photos to come of the installations in the coming weeks.
