Get the Look: 20 Handbags with Fringe

People have pretty particular feelings about fringe. I get it. Fringe can be all too hippie chick, or hokey cowgirl (now that’s fringe gone woefully astray). My husband is not a fan of fringe. He doesn’t even like the the lone leather strip of fringe that hangs from each zipper of my beloved Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac Crossbody Bag. (I have teal, for special color occasions, but I just got a grey one that I use multiple times a week.) My editor at the Boston Globe Magazine has rejected a fringe fashion style page. (No matter, I’m turning one into my editor at the newspaper instead.)

Designer Spotlight: Tilton Fenwick

Tilton Fenwick, the New York City interior design firm led by Anne Maxwell Foster and Suysel dePedro Cunningham is doing great things. Just four years after hanging out their stylish shingle,this adorable design duo has just debuted a line of upholstered furniture at Target. Known for saturated colors and mixing and matching of patterned fabrics, this pair has fun and it shows.

I first met Anne Maxwell Foster and Suysel dePedro Cunningham at a lunch in New York hosted by Traditional Home for the magazine’s 2012 New Trad issue. Last year, when they traveled to Boston to promote their new Tilton Fenwick Fabric Collection for Duralee, I attended a dinner in their honor. I always have such a good time with them; lots of laughing.

Here is a sampling of Tilton Fenwick’s work—in case you haven’t seen it all over Pinterest already— as well as a selection of patterned upholstered headboards, sofas, ottomans, and chairs from the brand new Tilton Fenwick Designer Upholstery Furniture Collection for Target.

Just In: Cooking with Raddish

My kids are both products of a Montessori lower school education, which means that technically, they should be expert and chopping, measuring, pouring, and the like. However, as we all know, skills don’t always spill over from school.

If you have kids who are keen to help out in the kitchen, or you simply (smartly) want to teach them to fend for themselves, Raddish is a fun way to get started. Created by the folks behind Kitchen Kid, a mobile culinary school for kids and families in L.A, Raddish brings the concept of edible education right to your kitchen.

Subscribers receive a monthly box 0f recipes and accoutrements to help you and your kids prepare easy and yummy foods for every type of eater. Each package contains three family-friendly recipe guides, skill card, two creative activities, shopping list, table talk card deck, and an iron-on patch for your child’s Raddish apron.

The whole thing is darn cute. Raddish sent me a starter kit, and while my boys are a bit older than the targeted demographic, I certainly enjoyed it, and am passing it along to a friend. It’s definitely a good idea, and while you certainly don’t need the fun accessories, it’s something for your children to look forward to and a nudge for you to motivate you to get cooking with them.

It’s already been a month since I curated 24 Rooms with Copper Pendant Lights. It’s about time I’ve followed up so you too can get the look. Here are 15 modern copper pendant lights.

Get the Look: 48 Pendant Lights Perfect for Hallways

Following up on yesterday’s post Montage: 28 Hallways With Pendants, I’ve rounded up 48 pendant lights that are perfect to use in succession in long (or short) hallways. Good lighting definitely works to improve home ambiance and helps keeps moods lifted, especially in these dark winter months. (As much as I loved Copenhagen, I suppose it’s best I don’t live in Scandinavia.)

I tend to refer to our downstairs as a dungeon (we live on the parlor and lower levels, so to speak), but at least the lower levels house the bedrooms. Thankfully the living room, where my desk (and work sofa!) is has a large bay window that looks onto a lovely urban view of historic buildings, and right now, trees with lingering red and gold leaves. The ceiling is also rather low, so likely I’ll have to go with flush or semi-flush mount fixtures, but I wanted to provide you with an array of pendants that would enliven more prominent (or humdrum but high) hallways.

Cuing off the styles in yesterday’s post, you can see that pretty much any style of pendant can work. I think I’ve sourced a few of all the examples shown: wicker pendants, copper & brass pendants, schoolhouse pendants, industrial cage pendants, colorful and all black dome pendants, classic lanterns, geo faceted pendants, simple drum pendants, glass pendants (including swirly Murano glass styles), capiz shell pendants, Moroccan style star pendants, globe pendants, and the ever trendy bare bulb fixtures.
