Montage: 34 Rooms with Poufs

The ubiquitous pouf. They’re everywhere. Moroccan-style poufs, knitted poufs, even wire poufs (though not sure those are actually poufy). I finally purchased one for myself. It’s silver metallic, and sits in front of the white sofa with the gray ikat pillows, which sits in front of my white bed, which sits in front of an accent wall covered with a white wallpaper with silver metallic circles. Seems stylish, right? Guess who hates the pouf? He thinks it looks like a giant, shiny soccer ball.

Here are enough photos of gorgeous rooms to prove that the pouf really is at the height of fashion.

Site Spotlight: The Inside Source

Last week, eBay launched a new lifestyle site, The Inside Source. It’s genius really. A blog-style  format with interviews on the latest pop culture, art, fashion, beauty, décor, “green” chic, and hi-tech gadgets, all concluding with links to similar finds currently available for sale on eBay. My friend, and Store Adore co-founder, Meredith Barnett is the editor, so it’s a sure thing. I’ll be contributing two articles each week, so I hope you’ll check it out. Here’s a run-down of my contribution – what’s live now, and a preview of what’s to come:

Montage: Tree Trunks

When did logs become so stylish? (Around the same time as antlers, perhaps?) It used to be that trees belonged outdoors. Or up in your cabin in Maine. Designers eased them into our rooms gently with white resin, silver or ceramic pieces fashioned to look like logs. Now they simply hack down a tree and plop it into our decor, proclaiming it “mahvelous.” Ok, not really, but almost. This touch of the earthy, when done with restraint, can soften a space. It also adds texture (designers love that) and reminds us that two worlds really can coexist. I found tons of rooms in which logs, stumps, and branches have been incorporated with perfection.

Montage: Zebras

I’m not the biggest fan of the animal print, but I must admit that these zebra print patterns achieve a certain pop. Jonathan Adler lurves zebra – three of these rooms are his designs. Two are boutique hotels designed by Kelly Wearstler. Mostly the poor guy’s skin is found on the floor, but it occasionally makes an appearance on upholstery. I like the zebra paired with pink, even if it’s reminiscent of the Good & Plenty. (Are those still around?) My favorite is the gray drapery next to the desk with the Chinese Chippendale chair – so subtle. Ashley Whittaker’s blue zebra print room is anything but subtle, and made quite the splash in Domino. It’s Rose Cummings’ Zebrine, the red version of which I actually featured in “Cover Ups,” the first piece I ever did for the Globe magazine.

Montage: Wallpaper Behind the Bed

If you follow design trends at all, you know that wallpaper has made a comeback. Never one to let a style slide by, I’ve decided to wallpaper the wall behind my bed. The whole room needs help, so it’s the perfect opportunity to play. Here are some inspirations. Tomorrow I’ll show you some swatches (and sources too).
