Montage: 35 Bell Jars (or Cloches If You’re French)

Anything can be art under glass. I first heard this from stylist Kara Butterfield, who displayed rocks in and under tumblers on her mantle in Boston. She told me,  “If you put anything in a glass, or behind glass it celebrates it, gives it meaning, like a picture in a frame.”  Others seem to be catching on. Bell jars, or cloches, seem to be on every console and coffee table, containing anything from fawn figurines to succulents or matchbox cars to brass nails. J. Crew has even been showcasing shoes under them. Here’s a look at 35 examples which includes live plants, dead insects, and inanimate objects from the ordinary to intricate.

Montage: 47 Bunny Rabbit Rooms

Bunnies were out and about riding the (cotton) tails of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in 2010, but the trend didn’t end there. While I wouldn’t say the rabbit is the “it” creature of the moment (post on those in coming weeks), they’ve certainly been hopular. (Sorry.) Last week we posted a trend roundup “Hip Hop” on The Inside Source, and in honor of Easter I’m following up here, with quite a few great bunny rabbit rooms; not all of them for kids.

Montage: 50 (More) Green Rooms

I posted 40 Green Rooms back in the summer of 2009, so it’s time for an update, especially since Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day. (Not that I’m Irish, but green is my favorite color.) Mint green is trending in fashion, but unfortunately, I didn’t come across many mint green interiors in my photo archives. Maybe that’s a whole other post down the line. Let me know if you’ve spotted any mint green rooms around the web.

Montage: 34 Rooms with Love

The web has been littered with hearts and such since the beginning of the month. I was going to hold this post until next week, but I figured I’d join the party early. These rooms all spell love, literally. Well, there’s one amour.

ARTmonday: Arite Kannovas

During my Sunday afternoon catching up on what’s been posted on design blogs this week, I spotted an image on The Design Files blog that led me to painter Arite Kannovas. It was the bedroom of Melbourne stylist Heather Nette King. Above her bed, she hung a newly acquired painting by the artist. Turns out King’s blog is quite fantastic as well, and promptly added it to Google Reader.

Back to Arite Kannovas. According to Daily Imprint (another blog worth a follow), Arite, who also lives in Melbourne, both paints and designs textiles. Her use of color is fantastic, and King’s crisp white room is just the way to show it off. (My favorite is “Eye Candy”, in case anyone who loves me is reading this.)

The home of stylist Heather Nette King.
