Get the Look: 30 Guest Room Goodies

Today is my debut as a LampsPlus blogger! The topic is seasonal—”14 Guest Room Essentials“—in anticipation of holiday house guests. (Not that I have to deal with this, as we go to Connecticut most Thanksgivings.) I do, however, love the idea of creating the perfect space for guests. In my younger (misguided) years, I thought having a B&B in Vermont would be fun. Yikes.  Instead I try to make our guest rooms on the Cape light, airy, and all around perfect. I suppose one could run into the problem of visitors overstaying their welcome, but since I don’t tend to cook and dance any jigs for them, I haven’t had this issue. : )

Get the Look: 33 (Affordable) Pops of Color

Montage: 32 White Rooms with Pops of Color was meant to run yesterday not Wednesday, but hopefully you haven’t forgotten the fresh white rooms punctuated with bursts of brights. As you know, I’m concocting a decorating scheme inspired by those rooms for a Delray Beach condo. (The closing papers should arrive today!) As you also know, we’re on a serious budget. Scheming: Meredith + Daniel’s Dining Spaces

It’s been a while since I’ve reported on Meredith & Daniel’s apartment; I definitely owe you some schemes. It’s coming together. The apartment has two living room/dining room spaces, each on either side of the kitchen. One will function as the playroom/family room with a casual eating area. The other is a more grown-up living room and dining room. Both are still usable by any age—the grown-up one is hardly formal, but it will be  a toy-free zone (we hope!). As you can see, the tables and chairs for both are quite durable and versatile. A glam sputnik dresses up the adult space.

Get the Look: Where the Wild Things Are

Today, Maurice Sendak, author of Where the Wild Things Are (1963), died at age 83 in Connecticut due to complications from a stroke. Although for some reason I did not have his books growing up, I read them over and over to my own boys. I always savored the illustrations in this one, and really enjoyed the silliness of Into the Night Kitchen (1970). I put together a few decorating ideas inspired by these wonderfully creative tales. RIP Maurice Sendak, storyteller.
