Shopping Trip: Diseno

There are a few really wonderful home decor boutiques here in Boston, many in the artsy SoWa district of the South End. Diseño is one of my favorites. Frank Campanale was inspired to open the boutique  after an extended trip to South America back in 2001, during which he stayed for a week each in Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile. Moved by the contrast of daily life in Third World countries and the richness of the culture, he travels there often to source treasures for the shop.

His most recent expedition was to Guatemala just two weeks ago. Intrigued by my recent spurt of Instagram photos (glad to know somebody out there loves them!), he invited me over, curious to see how his products, which range from delicious blankets to earthy pots to cowhide rugs in cutting edge colors, would translate with the app. Here are the results. Shopping Trip: Twelve Chairs

Today, one of the few days I’ve had any time recently, I ventured down to Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood to stop in at the new home furnishings shop and design studio, Twelve Chairs.  The business is a collaborative effort from two 27-year-old interior designers who met at Cornell, Roisin and Miggy. Roisin, who’s from the area, worked at a commercial architecture firm and did a stint at Koo de Kir in Beacon Hill two learn the retail side of things. Miggy, who’s from New York, worked in operations for the Anthropologie in Rockefeller Center in New York City. The pair stock the sun-filled loft space with pieces from small artisans, with a focus on sustainable methods and materials. They also offer design services.

Event Alert: Patch NYC Hosts Klein Reid Tonight in Boston

Patch NYC is having a party tonight to celebrate the opening of its new Boston shop.  In addition to the pair’s fabulous home furnishings, scarves, jewelry, and objets d’art, they’re featuring the ceramic wares of Klein Reid, whose creators, David and James, will be there too.
