Montage: 47 Living Rooms with Chandeliers and Pendants

The renovations are finally finished in our condo, save for a few odds and ends and two extra dining room tables in the living room. I should also get around to sourcing a living room chandelier. I had the electrician add a box and switch for one in the center of the living room, between the rows of recessed lights. I originally thought I’d like a vintage sputnik, possibly in brass, but now I’m not so sure. Obviously a glittering crystal chandelier isn’t my taste, and a Lindsey Adelman fixture is way out of my price range. So, what shall it be? I found some gorgeous specimens on 1st Dibs, but I’ll save those until tomorrow. Meanwhile, let’s look at 47 different living rooms with various options, from contemporary creations and vintage sputnik to lanterns and Chinoiserie.

Montage: 43 Kid Rooms

Following up on Friday’s post about Susanna Salk’s upcoming book Room for Children: Stylish Spaces for Sleep and Play (Rizzoli), I’ve curated some of my favorite images of spaces for kids. At the end of the post, I’ve included links to my previous kid room posts. Definitely inspires me to at least clean up, if not redecorate.

Montage: 30 Spaces with Sputnik Chandeliers

I’m not really all about retro, but I am loving sputnik chandeliers. (Though I wonder if the trend will be too over soon. These days it’s really about the raw light bulb.) Chunky chrome anemone fixtures, spiky brass models, expansive hand blown glass designs, and crystal floret-adorned vintage beauties are all still on my mind. I’m thinking an amazing, somewhat intricate eBay find would add glamour to my soon-to-be-in-the-works living room. (Of course, I’d need to hire an electrician.) While I’m at it, a sleeker model might be just the finishing touch my bedroom needs. I must do an accompanying “Get the Look” post to this montage. Stay tuned. (A post on exposed light bulbs is also in progress.)

Montage: Oversize Art in Interiors

In lieu of writing about a particular artist for this Monday post, I’ve compiled a montage of rooms that use art to make a statement. Large canvases pull an otherwise boring room together and act as amazing focal points. Monochromatic images might add texture, while wild abstracts are perfect for pops of color. The only drawback – price. The larger the image, the more expensive it is generally. That explains why all the artwork in my house is petite. If only I could trade them in for something grand. If you’re crafty, you could splash color on a canvas on your own, or stretch a gorgeous piece of fabric over a frame and staple. Easy.
