ARTmonday: Cig Harvey

Thanks to the Artsy newsletter, I discovered a new photographer last week who I love, love, love—Cig Harvey.  And she’s kind of local. Cig Harvey lives in a farmhouse in the Midcoast of Maine. She was an assistant professor at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University for ten years, but recently took a leap of faith to devote her life to “purely making things.” Good choice.

Her images are visually crisp, but the subject matter a bit mysterious and at times moody. She uses herself as the subject, as well as children (hers?). They’re right up my alley, and would have fit into numerous posts I’ve done, like “Girls at Play,” and runs in the same vein as women photographers I’ve highlighted, such as Anastasia Cazabon and Rhi Ellis.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine, and the International Museum of Photography all have her work in its collections. She is represented by Robert Klein Gallery in Boston, Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland, Robin Rice Gallery in NYC, and Kopeikin Gallery in L.A. I hope my collection will include a Cig Harvey at some point oo.

Get the Look: 15 Modern Copper Pendant Lights

It’s already been a month since I curated 24 Rooms with Copper Pendant Lights. It’s about time I’ve followed up so you too can get the look. Here are 15 modern copper pendant lights.

Yes, there are other styles of copper pendants beside Tom Dixon’s copper shade pendant. I love #15, but then again, I’m a fan of pretty much anything designed by Iacoli & McAllister. Remember the turquoise Frame Cluster chandelier I posted two years ago? It’s now available in copper. (I still love the blue though.) #8 is interesting too; yes, I also adore Seattle-based Ladies & Gentlemen Studio.

Here are 15 modern copper pendant lights (some from StyleCarrot partners), all fantastic.

Swatching: Tilton Fenwick for Duralee

This is the first post of a new column for StyleCarrot, called Swatching. As you can probably guess, I’ll be highlighting textile, wallpaper, tile, rug, and other similar collections of products used to decorate. I don’t get over to the Boston Design Center as often as I’d like, so maybe this will motivate me. Of course I also get press releases and images directly from the companies and designers as well.

On Monday night I had dinner at Trade, chef Jody Adam’s restaurant on the Waterfront, with the lovely ladies of Manhattan-based interior design firm Tilton Fenwick. (Thank you Duralee for hosting!) I first met Suysel DePedro Cunningham and Anne Maxwell Foster in the spring of 2012, through Traditional Home when the designers we nominated won a spot in magazines digital TRADHome issue. (I wrote about Palmer Weiss; have a peek here.)  I’ve followed their work and stayed in touch.

Earlier this year, Suysel and Anne, who are known for mixing a giddy array of color and pattern, launched their first fabric line, Tilton Fenwick Collection for Duralee. Here is a sampling of their fantastic prints. Now, I need to go see what I can re-cover . . .
