Covet: La Tripolina Chair at Disenso

So chic and even practical, these “La Tripolina” chairs from Argentina come in weather resistant sling covers as well as leather or cowhide (and zebra, it seems; or maybe that’s dyed cowhide). They’re from Diseño Bos, a boutique in SoWa in Boston, specializing in home furnishings from South America. Not sure how much they are, but they’re on sale for 20% off.

Get the Look: Wall Sculptures

So, have you decided you should get a wall sculpture? Can be cheaper than a painting (or not) and certainly are textural. I still haven’t taken one of mine out of the box – you might just want to make an offer on it. There are lots of sources for wall sculptures, both vintage and new . . .

Montage: Wall Sculptures

Since I’ve been writing a lot about Frank Roop lately, I’ve become a bit obsessed with Curtis Jere wall sculptures. A couple of weeks ago, while sitting innocently on the sofa with my computer, I began searching for examples online. 1st Dibs, too expensive, obviously. Ebay, full of options. I cavalierly bid on about half a dozen different Curtis Jere and Curtis Jere-inspired sculptures of the leafy variety. (I’ve been particularly taken with the spray of trees Frank put in this little Morroccan reading nook in Nantucket. I like the “raindrops” style too, but they’re pretty pricey.) I’ve bid on stuff before. Never won a thing. So maybe the economy isn’t so great right now. Maybe people aren’t shopping wildly for vintage metal artworks. OK, so I won four auctions. New sculptures have been arriving pretty much daily. I’ll photograph them and give you a preview later this week. Maybe you’d like one for your own house? Here are some images for inspiration.

The one that started it all.

ARTmonday: Lucy Mitchell and Phil Lichtenhan

You might remember that I went to the Vineyard a couple of weeks ago for a story for Cape Cod & Islands Home. The owner of the house has some great pieces by local artists, including Lucy Mitchell. I love the way she elevates simple rocks in “White Stone Collection,” a boxed assemblage of white beach stones arranged against dictionary pages. I found a few of her other pieces online, and followed up with her dealer, Mary Etherington at Etherington Fine Art in Vineyard Haven, who says, “Lucy takes the natural world and arranges it.” Mitchell is now represented by Nye Gallery in Oak Bluffs, where her show opened this past Saturday; her first in a few years. I wasn’t able to find any images, but here are the older works.

While I was browsing through other Vineyard gallery sites, I came across these sculptures by Phil Lichtenhan, who is represented by the Shaw Cramer Gallery in Vineyard Haven. They complement Lucy Mitchell’s work, so I included them here too.
