Site Spotlight: JamieShop.com

Interior designer Jamie Herzlinger, who has offices in NYC and Scottsdale, AZ, recently launched JamieShop.com. Through JamieShop.com, anyone can order from over 400 of the top “to the trade only” manufacturers, including favorites Baker Furniture, Schumacher, Duravit, Clarence House, Stark, Henredon, Ralph Pucci, and tons more.

Once you sign in with your email address, you can view the list of manufacturers, linked to their site. When you know what you want, just request a quote through JamieShop, which she provides within 48 hours from acknowledgement. The fee structure is 25 percent above her designer wholesale net cost. (She provides a copy of the manufacturer’s original invoice.).

JamieShop.com has signed on as a StyleCarrot advertiser, which I am psyched about. Over the summer, I worked with Jamie on a blog post for Matouk  about setting up poolside patios, and both she and her associates couldn’t have been sweeter, not to mention enthusiastic and efficient. She’ll be my go-to buying source.

Below is a sampling of items available through JamieShop.com.

Site Spotlight: Ethica, Ethical Eco-Friendly Sustainable Fashion

Ethica is an online retailer co-founded by my former colleague, the ever cute and hard-working Melissa Cantor. She has sourced some equally cute fashions that are as stylish as they are socially responsible. I was reminded that I wanted to blog about it after reading “Feel Good Fashion: The New Black” in Saturday’s Wall Street Journal. They totally should have included Ethica!

All of Ethica’s designers ensure that their products are made in safe, healthy environments, free of human rights violations. This means no child labor, no sweatshop-like conditions, and no exploitation. Their workers receive fair wages in the local context for every hour worked. The designers have also taken steps to minimize their impact on the environment, give back to communities in need, and generally pay it forward. If only more designers and manufacturers would do this.  Ethica uses eco-friendly packaging and free, carbon-neutral shipping for domestic orders. The company is based in a LEED-certified green building in New York City. Finally, Ethica supports nonprofits dedicated to the development of responsible artisan businesses.

You can shop by “Ethical Qualities” if you wish, pulling a pre-sort of handcrafted or vegan items, for example. And, in addition its shopping component, the site features a blog with posts on ethical street style, eco escapes, and designer profiles. Enjoy; it’s guilt free!

Site Spotlight: Idyll Home

Idyll Home is a British webshop offering a tightly curated collection of home furnishings and decor that have a vintage modern aesthetic, infused with a bit of the rustic and industrial. I hadn’t come across it until this morning, when proprietor Claire Krier sent me a note. I happened to need a quick topic to blog on this morning, so was psyched to see her darling offerings. Idyll Home is based in the Staffordshire countryside. Krier searches out things that aren’t in every shop, including ethical and recycled products. Lines include American meets Indian favorite John Robshaw, Danish brands Tine K and House Doctor, and Dutch tabletop company Jansen + Co. Below are a dozen pieces from Idyll Home that I’d love to own.
