Designer Spotlight: Madeline Weinrib Covers Furniture

Madeline Weinrib

Ikat darling Madeline Weinrib has wrapped her textiles around some pretty fabulous pieces of furniture.  The colorful tribal patterning and Modernist lines make for an interesting mix. The exhibition will include an Alexander Girard for Herman Mller sofa from 1968 upholstered in Weinrib’s hand-embroidered Sunder Suzani as well as the pieces pictured below.

ARTmonday: Pablo Manga at Farm Project Space + Gallery

Summer is often the time my husband and I purchase art.  This summer we got an amazing piece at Farm Project Space + Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Wellfleet that is quite unlike the other galleries in town. Susie, the owner, has a great eye and appreciation for emerging talents.

Pablo Manga is a Boston-born, San Francisco Bay Area artist who is a former New York City public school teacher, art lawyer, and Academy of art instructor. While living in Mexico City in the late ’90s, Pablo stumbled upon street vendors selling rolls of brightly colored, translucent adhesive tape, which he quickly snapped up. He experimented with them in all sorts of ways, finally settling on the obvious application – horizontal stripes. The tape is layered to create the varying tones and depths.

Event Alert: Erin Gates Shopping Party at Cynthia Rowley

164 Newbury Street, Boston

Boston interior designer, stylist, and blogger Erin Gates of Elements of Style is hosting a shopping party next week at Cynthia Rowley on Newbury Street. Unfortunately I’ll be out of town (well, not so unfortunate, I’ll be in NYC) but if you’re interested in attending, let Erin know. You’ll get 20 percent off your purchases that evening. There are some great fall looks. I’m especially loving the  prints and fringe.

Shopping Trip: Wellfleet Flea Market

Another summer. Another hot and sweaty trip to the Wellfleet Flea Market. I left empty handed, but the boys picked up Star Wars trading cords, orange rope, and a too loud and grating space age shooter.  I was hungry (and maybe a tad cranky), but managed to get a few photographs.

For more photos see last summer’s shopping trip.
