Get the Look: 41 Modern Kitchen Island Pendants

To follow up on last week’s Montage: 32 Kitchen Island Pendants, here are 41 styles of modern kitchen lighting pendants petite enough to hang over the island. You can see I tend to veer to an industrial sort of style, and certainly favor the bare bulb aesthetic. I detest the red and cobalt cylinders so often found in newly built kitchens. I included a couple of colored glass specimens here, but they’re either a semi-translucent sky blue, if opaque, in a mid-century modern silhouette.

I actually don’t have pendants over the island in Boston or the Cape. (I do however have a trio of #13 over the kitchen banquette table.) I prefer the clean look of recessed lights over an island, but if I had to have some, I really love these. My favorites are #5 and #41. These and more from StyleCarrot partner sites.

Get the Look: 48 Office Chairs that Swivel

As I mentioned yesterday, I need a new desk chair. Not only is mine falling apart, lately, the seat seems really hard. (Not sure why, all of a sudden.) So, when Tesco (yes, the British supermarket) got in touch asking me to tout its great office chairs selection, I figured it was a good a time as any to investigate. I found the usual suspects by Knoll and Herman Miller at Design Within Reach and Smart Furniture, and some high end contemporary models at Hive and Unica Home. Of course I browsed IKEA, West Elm, and CB2 for some less expensive choices too.

My favorites, the Eames Soft Pad Management Chair and the Eames Aluminum Executive, are both way too expensive, Any other thoughts? Here’s my desk:

Get the Look: 22 Sconces that Stretch

I’m trying to come up with a spot in my apartment where I could install one of these super long-armed wall lamps. I’m over the industrial factory look (for my own space anyway). I like the bare bones minimal ones and also the Italian vintage styles from the ’50s, though I fear they’re a bit on the whimsical side for me.  I think #15 is my favorite. Maybe in the family room, over the sofa? That room could use a little architectural-like interest. It’s much more practical than an annoying floor lamp.  Many of these are pricey; the style hasn’t been knocked off  in a frenzy by the usual suspects yet, so I didn’t really find any truly “low” options.

Get the Look: 41 Geo Faceted Furnishings
