ARTmonday: 22 Artworks from Curate 1K

Norah Guignon‘s blog, Curate 1K, is simple. Every week she scours the web to find $1,000 worth of affordable artwork. The site is clean and simple, presenting a digestible number of thumbnails on each page. When you click into the artwork, she lists not just the vital stats, but the price and link to where you can purchase it. She’s not in business, it’s just a labor of art love.  And it is art I love.

ARTmonday: Illustrated Arrays, From Modern Chairs to Vintage Cameras

I saw the first image here, So Many Trees, So Little Time by Eloise Renouf, on Pinterest today via my favorite art pinner, drawdrawdraw*, and was struck by it for a few reasons. First, the caption said, “ways to draw trees,” and I thought it would be helpful for my 10-year-old who struggles with all the illustrations he’s required to do for school. Second, once I focused in on it, I saw the obvious resemblance to Marimekko patterns; particularly Siirtolapuutarha (I bought that pillow cover in Finland in May). Finally, as I was trying to decide what to feature today, and came to the conclusion it should be child-centric, but not obviously so, I thought images in this vein would work. Simple drawings of items arrayed, some almost chart-like, all easily digestible, some child-like, others just decoratively geometric, and some sassy illustrations. I hope you like the mix.

ARTmonday: Menno Aden’s Room Portraits

While finishing up tomorrow’s Designer Dailies post for Design Milk, I clicked through to Blu Dot’s blog. No surprise, they’ve recently posted some fun stuff, including a Room Portrait by German photographer Menno Aden. The series features aerial views of various rooms, both public and private. The perspective transforms the rooms into flattened, two-dimensional scale models. I think they’re great; some have a kind of deconstructed look. The first is my favorite. Thinking of contacting him about price . . .

ARTmonday: Miju Lee

I saw one of Miju Lee’s colored pencil drawings on Pinterest last week and thought it was charming, so I clicked through to investigate. Here is a sampling of her work, in various mediums, including colored pencil, painting, and collage.

35 Artworks at The School of Museum of Fine Arts, Boston 2012 Sale

The annual sale at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston 2012 starts today. I went to the opening night event on Tuesday and snapped some photos for you. We were restrained this year, bringing only three pieces home in an effort to save money, considering we’re pretty much out of wall space. Still, there are great pieces, great deals, and the money goes to a good cause—educating Boston art students. As always, there are works by students, faculty, affiliated artists, and alumni, including pieces by Ellsworth Kelly, Jim Dine, Mike + Doug Starne, Lalla Essaydi, and Tara Donovan.
