Artist Ginette La Palme is an artist and illustrator who lives with a tiger-striped cat named Washington in Toronto. While her portfolio is mostly filled with offbeat watercolors and drawings of cartoon-like characters, from grinning tree trunks and teapots to hide-and-go-seek kitties, I’m fixated on these brightly decorated twigs. They’re inspiring a walk through the woods and a trip to an art supply store.

Covet: Pigeon Toe Ceramics Porcelain Disc Chimes
I’ve been a fan of Portland, Oregon studio Pigeon Toe Ceramics since its advent in 2009, but my love has been renewed with these charming wind chimes.
Designer Lisa Jones strings hand-thrown, glazed porcelain discs on deerskin cords (available in six different colors) or a more monochromatic natural jute twine. The irregularly rounded forms and gentle clinking sounds are welcome departures from more intrusive, metal chimes that echo on otherwise peaceful summer eves.
(Disc Chimes, $44 for 4 discs; $70 for 8.)
Just In: Simon Pearce Teapot Trio
Simon Pearce goes contemporary with a trio of new additions to the Barre collection—a teapot ($175), sugar bowl ($50), and creamer ($50). The elliptical-shaped, hand-crafted pottery has a matte finish available in slate (shown here), shale, and alabaster. The silhouettes are thoroughly modern, but the material lends an earthy edge that doesn’t abandon the designer’s New England roots.

ARTmonday: Quercus Designs’ Beach Object Photographs
Yesterday I finally caught up with miles of blog posts on Remodelista. I found a few items I must have, including the work of Jennifer Steen Booher, who photographs natural object assemblages under the name Quercus Designs. I purchased two 12x12s (the first two shown here) from her Etsy shop, and plan to hang them in our house on the Cape. The silhouetted specimens in each of the arrays have a crisp sparseness, that I think, along with the colors, that work really well. So simple, but very satisfying. She writes about her work — where she found the tokens and such — on her blog. Bar Harbor Yacht Club, May 29, 2011

ARTmonday: Peace Beads
Yes, I’m a day behind with this art post, but really, I haven’t blogged in so long; so sorry. (I’ve been posting consistently on Style Carrot • Boston, for those of you who are local.) Last week we attended the art show at a neighborhood Montessori school. I was very taken with these peace beads which were created by the kindergarten class. An easy DIY project for kids. And simply lovely, especially since each peace beads strand hangs from a branch and ends with a bell.
