Get the Look: 24 X-Stools

If you’re in the market for an extra spot to sit, put up your feet, or set down a drink, consider an X-stool. Actually, consider two – they look great in pairs. You can tuck them under the console table in the entry or under your sofa table to keep them out of the way if need be. They’re also great for a dressing table or vanity, if you have such a thing.

I’ve sourced two dozen X-stools (or X-benches if you prefer) from StyleCarrot partner sites. Get the Look: Patterned Rugs

Here’s an assortment of amazing rugs in a wide range of price points. Some you’ve surely seen before, but I love them so much that I couldn’t leave them out. I recently purchased one of these rugs for our playroom-turning-family room. It has lots of colors, the pattern is more geometric than free form, and it’s not expensive. Anyone wanna guess? (There’s a clue in the Montage: Patterned Rugs post.) Also, look for a couple of designs for which you see the original and it’s much lower priced knock-off. (Hint: They’re both stripey.)

Get the Look: Trees

First it was silver candlesticks fashioned to look like tree branches. Then it was faux bois white resin furnishings that were all the rage. These days hunks of the real thing are showing up in the most stylish rooms. Logs as side tables are particularly popular, as are glass topped bases of gnarled branches. Get the Look: Chalkboard Chic

I don’t really need to give you sources for chalkboard paint; it’s readily available. You can get it in any color, for walls or metal, and you can even buy a magnetic version. I mean, why limit your kids to chalk when they could be using the wall for Playskool magnetic letters. Or perhaps you’d like to break out that magnetic poetry set that’s been relegated to the back of a drawer. If you don’t have the space (or desire) to dedicate an entire wall to your chalky whims, you can pick up a freestanding board anywhere. Vintage ones are readily available too. Or, you can get your chalkboard fix with one of these cute chalkboard accessories.
