Get the Look: Curating a Contemporary Patio

It’s Memorial Day weekend (in case you, like, forgot you had a long weekend) and I’m headed out to the Cape.Today I partnered with Wayfair to re-imagine my contemporary patio.

We have a simple and spare bluestone patio, cut cleanly into the grass, two steps down from the house. It’s a nice contrast to the more wild (and surely overgrown) landscape beyond. If we had the budget, I would replace our sturdy wood loungers with sleek contemporary lounge chairs topped with brightly colored cushions, and a wood slat metal table and fun, modern  patio chairs.

If I had the time (not to mention a green thumb), I’d add minimalist planters along one side. I’d also finally stain the concrete wall that separates the grill from the sitting area on the little  back patio, which is kind of bleak. Concrete troughs would hold funky, spiky plants in a Pinterest-worthy tableau. And the inexpensive no frills gas grill would be replaced by a shiny outdoor kitchen model.

We would by no means have a rug. It’s not SoCal. It’s untamed New England. Yes to fire. Last summer  we got a portable fire pit. Makes too much smoke, but good s’mores. A  higher end non-wood burning  fire pit would be preferable.

Here’s an inspiration photo of a contemporary outdoor space I love, along with nine contemporary patio furnishings  from StyleCarrot partner Wayfair.
