Style: Marimekko Spring 2013
Last night I attended Marimekko’s presentation of the Spring 2013 women’s clothing collection at the boutique on Newbury Street, Boston. It was informal and fun. Everyday girls and women were the models. They made several outfit changes, and walked through the space, mingling with guests. The colors, as expected where bright and cheerful, but not hard edged. Purples mixed with greens; aquamarines and turquoise; gray and yellow with a shot of coral; navy and hot pink. In terms of silhouettes, there were ’60s style shifts as well as more contemporary party dress shapes. The best was a floor-length piece with exaggerated, jutting pockets at the hips. There was also a flow-y hostess gown that my mother-in-law would adore. Let’s have a look through the Instagram filter.

Just In: Studio Bon Textiles
As much as I’d love to wander around design centers and attend market week in NYC, most of my work involves writing at home. So I’m thrilled when I’m alerted to new textiles and wall covering designs without having left my desk.
This morning. I got an email from Schumacher about Studio Bon. I love, love, love it the fall collection. The line, created by designer Bonnee Sharp, debuted in 2008. The 34 item collection includes seven new patterns, all printed by hand with water-based pigments in the United States.
I often think fabrics are too fussy and fancy, or too loud, cutesy, or trendy. But these I could live with for a very long time. I just need to figure out where to fit them in.
