Crafty: Metallic Dipped Concrete Votives

When I happen upon a product, I occasionally learn, to my surprise, that it’s a DIY project. It’s amazing what people have wherewithal (and time!) to concoct. I save the fun, innovative ideas to my “Crafty” Pinterest board, (there’s about 300 so far), but sometimes it needs a wider shout-out. So, I’ve added a new column to the blog, called “Crafty.” I likely won’t be detailing the steps (unless I’ve come up with and/or executed the project; but really, how likely is that?), but I will certainly provide the link so you can visit the blogger who put in the time and effort.

Covet: Coffee Set by Luca Nichetto + Mjolk

sucabaruca-mjolk

Venetian designer Luca Nichetto (who I met and spent the day with at Foscarini in Venice a few years ago), and the amazing gallery Mjölk in Toronto, Canada, have collaborated to create a beautiful coffee set called Sucabaruca.

The project involved many people from different cultures and countries: the owners of Mjölk, Juli and John, who collect and distribute products from primarlily Scandinavia and Japan; the Canadian ceramist Alissa Coe, who made the prototypes; Lera Moiseeva, Russian/New York designer and artist who contributed to the development of the coffee set in collaboration with Nichetto’s studios in Sweden and Italy; and Elena Freddi, collaborator at the studio in Stockholm.

Site Spotlight: Idyll Home

Idyll Home is a British webshop offering a tightly curated collection of home furnishings and decor that have a vintage modern aesthetic, infused with a bit of the rustic and industrial. I hadn’t come across it until this morning, when proprietor Claire Krier sent me a note. I happened to need a quick topic to blog on this morning, so was psyched to see her darling offerings. Idyll Home is based in the Staffordshire countryside. Krier searches out things that aren’t in every shop, including ethical and recycled products. Lines include American meets Indian favorite John Robshaw, Danish brands Tine K and House Doctor, and Dutch tabletop company Jansen + Co. Below are a dozen pieces from Idyll Home that I’d love to own.
