Montage: 52 DIY Headboards

As a less expensive follow up to last month’s Montage: 47 Upholstered Headboards, I want to share this collection of headboards that are re-purposed, up-cycled, and the like. There are headboards fashioned from doors, decals, mirrors, mantles, tapestries, chalkboards, room dividers, architectural elements, iron gates, pegboard, plywood, and more. DIY and v intage aren’t really my thing, but there are some good ideas here.I know this topic has been done, done, and done, but I hope a number of these images are new to you.

Montage: 64 Rooms with Black and White Art

I’ve been really drawn to black and white abstract artworks recently. For instance, I could really go for a Franz Kline. OK, so that isn’t likely, but there are plenty of alternatives, and designers are incorporating them into interiors rather a lot of late. From misshapen ink blots and robust geometrics to feathery woodcuts and simple hand-drawn forms, black and white artworks elevate the sophistication level of a room.

I love the look, but I’ve found myself hesitating when confronted with the opportunity to purchase such a piece. Maybe the thought of laying out a lot of money for such simplicity is not as exciting as taking ownership of something bright and shiny. But let’s be serious, that could end up being the difference between something trendy from Forever 21 or a beautifully tailored Armani. No comparison. Happily, we recently purchased a pair of drawings that resemble thread. I had them matted and framed and they look fantastic. (I’ll try to post a photo later today.)

Montage: 47 Coffee/Cocktail Tables

Now that our living room is habitable again (aside from the two extra dining tables taking up half the space), I’ve decided to try out the Heywood-Wakefield coffee table with revolving top that we salvaged from my husband’s grandparents house. I had initially been thinking of an airy brass and glass piece, to work with the pair of atomic ball and brass-plated  vintage lamps from eBay and yet to be chosen future chandelier, but this one looks pretty good.

It works nicely with our Petrie sofa, which has similar lines to the original 1960s pieces his grandparents used to furnish the house. (Too bad our sofa is uncomfortable. Actually, it’s fine for cocktails, but not conducive to lying around with a laptop. Which do you think I spend more time doing?

Here are 49 living rooms with various styles of coffee table (or cocktail table, I guess the term is interchangeable). If you’re working on figuring out what type of design will work for you, these images will provide some ideas.
