Montage: 28 Rooms with Cognac Colored Leather Sofas

We all know that a classic brown leather Chesterfield sofa can look quite dignified in a traditional library setting. Thinking of other types of modern leather sofas in natural colors or rich luggage tones, one might imagine a Danish modern setting, or something quite Italian and sleek. But there’s an in-between.

I actually wouldn’t have guessed that I’d find so many examples of cognac colored modern leather sofas so easily, and that they’d be in such tasteful decors, including Scandinavian interiors,  Brooklyn brownstones, modern houses, and bohemian lofts.

These modern leather sofas mix as well with sheepskin as they do with kilims. Some are clean-lined sectionals, other a tad squishy. While most are in mainly white settings, many are mixed with deep reds, or yellow and green accessories. Here are 28 rooms with modern leather sofas in natural colors like cognac, caramel and tobacco  that are worth studying (and emulating).

Montage: 50 Tubs with a View

As winter eases and summer slowly (too slowly) comes forth, one of the things I look forward to is taking baths again. Our condo in Boston has an oversize (too big) shower, but the only tub is a standard one (too small) in the boys’ bathroom. My favorite room at our place on the Cape may be our wonderful, sky blue glass mosaic tile walled bathroom with its deep bathtub (just right). While there isn’t an over-the-top view (we saved the distant ocean vista for the bedroom), it is bordered by two large windows looking out to the woods, including a couple of birch trees, which I love.

The tubs in this post are unreal. A lot of them are part of resorts, but not all. They look out over woods, oceans, mountains, fields, and city skylines. Some are even outdoors. They’re all heavenly.

Montage: 45 Striped Rooms

Years ago, one summer weekend when I opted to stay in the City over the Hamptons, I got really ambitious, and painted my little bathroom on East 87th Street with soft green and white stripes. Well, it was already white, so I only painted the green. Only? I measured, taped, painted, painted again, waited for it to dry, and peeled. Done before the boyfriend arrived back on Sunday night. I don’t remember what he thought, I guess it was fine, but I remember that someone else described it as looking like a candy store. I suppose, depending on what you keep in your medicine chest that could be accurate…
