Now that Meredith & Daniel’s dining spaces are set, it’s time to choose the stools for the kitchen island. The kitchen is a large, sleek space with bamboo cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling windows along one side. It opens to the living room/dining spaces on either end.
While there are a lot of very cool counter stools on the market (stay tuned for a round-up of 72 tomorrow), we’re leaning towards the Bertoia. The simple design works perfectly in the contemporary kitchen and won’t interfere with any design details in either living space. Meredith also appreciates that they have seat backs, so they’re safer for squirmy toddlers, and they’re virtually indestructible. They’re a bit pricey, but we’ve only splurged once so far (on the Saarinen dining table).
Here are 43 kitchens with counter stools. Seven have Bertoias. I noted in parentheses the stool designer where I was able. If you can name any of the other ones, leave me a comment and I’ll add it in.
