Yesterday I went to Brimfield for the first time! Luckily, I met up with Jill Goldberg with the impeccable taste from Hudson, who pointed me in the right direction. It runs to the end of the week if you have a chance to visit. (And it’s back again in July.) It was a quick 90-minute drive from Boston. Here are some things that caught my eye:

I’m dying to go! I grew up not too far from there, and never went, so this summer I am going to definitely go!

Wow – WHAT a cool antique show!!! And you have a real knack for photography. I’m especially in love with the blue and green dishware at top – and awed by the amount of it.

Oh, I’m so jealous- it looks awesome! I have never been, but now I think I’m going to have to rent a car and go on Sunday. I hope some good things are still left then.

Oh I am so jealous I was hoping to get there this week! I love the bright yellow letters, door knobs and the numbered wooden blocks. Great finds. I can’t make this week, so resorted to blogging about it instead! (not nearly the same!)

I actually didn’t buy much! (I’m saving for new sofas.) I got a small and a large piece of an old antler, for $4 and $8, and the 7 old woodcut blocks used for printing Southeast Asian batiks. (There are some examples in the 7th photo – they’re laid out on the grass.) I think they will make a gorgeous wall sculpture. My friend Tanya bought a baby alligator head for her son (very cool – from an alligator farm, and teeth intact), a great beaded necklace from Southeast Asia and a bunny print in a salvaged wood frame for her daughter’s room. Jill from Hudson picked up some copper cups, silvered glass, a boat print, some baskets, and other stuff. I’ll do another post in July, when the story I am doing in the Globe runs – it will suggest specific vendors.

Your mother-in-law had printing blocks hanging on her study door in 1980, give or take. Talk about being ahead of the curve….

funny. but not surprising, given the artsy/earthy aspect. however, a bit more exotic than her standard decor.
